

1. Introduction
The band shall be known as Tantara Taiko. Hereafter in this document it is referred to as ‘the band’.
2. Aims of the Band
For Band members to gain satisfaction and pleasure from playing in the Band and enjoying the disciplines required for Taiko drumming and further education of Japanese culture. Also to educate the public in the Musical Arts and, in particular, the art of Japanese style Taiko drumming and to further the development of public appreciation and taste in the said art by the presentation of concerts and other activities.
3. Membership
It is the policy of The Band that all persons shall have equal opportunity for membership of the Band. The Band welcomes applications for membership and participation in its activities from any individual regardless of age, sex, sexual orientation, race, belief, or physical or mental disabilities.
The Band will operate an open policy to membership and will not specifically recruit players but will invite interested members of the general public to participate in band activities, both rehearsal sessions and concerts. Players reaching a more advanced playing standard may be asked to play different pieces of music (particularly in performance) than newer less experienced members. The Band will endeavour to develop the musical ability of all its playing members, provide opportunities for performance and thereby give appreciation, satisfaction and pleasure, through social music making.
4. Finance
- Fees: the fees for each rehearsal session (not performances) are as follows:
Waged members: £6.00
Non waged members: £5.00 - The financial year shall end on 31st March each year
The funds of the Band shall be kept in bank or building society accounts approved by the Executive Committee. - The Band may receive donations, grants in aid and financial guarantees and may levy charges for its services. Tickets for all or any of the Band’s concerts and other events may be offered for sale to the public.
- The income of the Band, whencesoever derived, shall be applied solely toward promoting the objects of the Band and no portion thereof shall be paid or transferred, either directly or indirectly, to any member or members of the Band, except in payment of legitimate expenses incurred on behalf of the Band.
- Cheques shall be signed by any two of the following officers of the Band: Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary.
- All expenditure shall be authorised by the Committee.
- The accounts of the Band shall be prepared annually for each financial year and be submitted to a Committee Meeting for approval.
5. Officers and the Committee
The management of affairs, engagements and concerns of the Band shall be entrusted to a committee which shall consist of all the officers of the band and such other members as shall be decided and elected at a meeting of all band members (Members Meeting) or AGM (annual general meeting). The officers of the society shall be the Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, and the Bandmaster all of whom shall be elected by the members at a Members Meeting or AGM. At the members meetings and AGM, Six Members, who are present in person, shall form a quorum
6. Instruments
The Band owned instruments and any property of the society shall be used only for Band engagements and practice unless the Bandmaster’s permission is first obtained. Instruments owned by members directly are the owner’s responsibility.
7. Amendments
This Constitution may only be amended by a resolution passed by a majority of those present and voting at a members meeting or AGM.
8. Dissolution
In the event of the Band being wound up, any assets remaining upon dissolution after the payment of proper debts and liabilities shall be transferred to a charitable institution or institutions having similar objectives to those of the Band.
